Have any of you seen the Yamaha teaser on their web site? I guess they are showing something new at NAMM. http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/global/en/

I have seen the teaser, and I'm not holding my breath. It looks very much like an MI-product - yet another MG/MW-type low budget mixer, with the FX-list silkscreened on the face of the console.

I would LOVE to be wrong!

Can I cross my fingers for the next generation of the 1d?

I'm starting to believe that we are not going to see a replacement for the PM1D.

sadly, i suspect you are correct.  i think yamaha has looked at the profit margin on the lower end of the market and seen where their bread is buttered...

it's a shame.  i still like the PM1D better than just about anything else.  so long as someone else sets it up for me...  :)

My understanding is that they are actively working on a PM1D replacement. It will not be this year.

I suspect yamaha would still be making and selling the PM1D if it wasn't for the fact that they ran low on some irreplacable components that they needed reserves of to provide proper customer support for the ones already sold.  The fact that there are many of them in use for truly pro-levels production indicates that the technology it's made of can still do the job.

I'm always a little amused when people start to see the end of the world when something isn't replaced in less than 10 years.  How often are other pro products replaced?  A cinema projection system?  An X-ray machine?  A school bus?  A helicopter?  Some of these products last for up to 50 years.  Why should we assume that a well-designed AND well-maintained piece of audio gear is old at 5-7 years which is when people seem to start to refer to things audio as dated?

I heard a rumor today that they were discontinuing the M7. It makes no sense to me that they would do so but its what I heard. I would definitely think we would see a new 1D then a 5D before a new M7. But what do I know?

I'd agree with your sequence, as it's been how Yamaha has done things in the past.  Now, though, I'm not sure how they do things...

They've sold a lot of M7, so if they're happy with the ROI and the model would compete with a new item, it can go.

I continue to suspect that Yamaha's next series of professional mixers will be distributed modules and Ethersound will be de rigueur; that Yamaha's control surfaces will come in 2 flavors, a modular small frame and a semi-modular large frame.

I also think we'll see a new trap box from a major player sometime this year.

That or my Digital Crystal Ball is pickup up re-runs again.

Have fun, etc.

Beats me.  Damn Digital Crystal Ball... it pixilates when the signal drops out.  I need a new antenna.  Henry? :D

I have no specific info as to feature set or packaging, but distributed i/o and processing was part of the concept.  When it finally happens I can determine if my "little birds" were accurate or not.  They already flew the coop on the announce date.
