Another example of, "You want me to plug into that?"
« on: December 10, 2011, 12:43:18 PM »

Not what I was expecting when they said there's a 30amp plug. Well, it tested out OK and I've seen a lot worse. But not exactly what I like to plug in to. At least they could have done was left the cover on.

Maybe they wanted you to be able to see the size wire hooked to it.

Obviously they have a no cover band policy.

I built a tester for just such outlets.

It is a AC volt meter and Frequency meter. I wired a switch to switch the common between input neutral and ground so I can check Hot to ground.

A VOM Would do the job, but this is small, quick, and easy, and fits in my gig bag.

The meter is from here.

It is the only inexpensive one I found that is self powered.

Where did you get the box for that Meter?

It is a Bud CU124  The same box I use to build my DI boxes.  Note that you will need to remove two "caps" add longer leads, and lay them down flat in order to use this box.

Hi Frank,
First, thanks for the link to the meter. I bought one and now it's on my bench along with a slightly deeper aluminum project box that will accomodate the meter with removing/re-orienting the caps.

Did you attach the ground to the case and from there go to a two-pole switch that toggles neutral/ground inputs to the meter?

Love the idea and your implementation, so thanks in advance!

Best regards,
