L'Acoustic 12XT
« on: November 20, 2011, 06:09:57 am »

Our company recently invested in L'Acoustic 12XT speakers.
I know the way to drive them is with LA4 or LA8 amplifiers.
The thing is, we own a lot of LabGruppen LAB4000 & FP10.000Q amplifiers to.
Is it possible to drive the 12XT's on XTA processing from the older version 112XT
in combination with my LabGruppen amplifiers?
Someone try d this?

Thx for your respond

Try it, and post how the result was here :-) We are also looking in to doing that. as a low cost solution. We were thinking of amping 12XT passive on LAB amps to offer some low cost solutions to monitoring and small PA. The LA amps are just too expensive for lowbudget gigs. Maybe you dont need any processing when driven passive?

Can you do it?  Yes, you can.  Will it sound as good as when driven by an LA4, unfortunately not.

Provided you have suitable presets for you XTAs it will be perfectly feasable to drive the boxes from third party amplifiers, however you will never achieve the performance of the same boxes with an L'Acoustics LA amp.  There is a huge amount of processing power contained within the LA series amps, especially when combined with LA Network Manager, which cannot be duplicated by an XTA.

We used to drive all of our 115xt HiQs with Lab FP6400/3400s and XTAs (v.1 presets) and they sounded decent.  However we recently invested in LA8s for all of our HiQs and the difference is stunning.  The new v3 presets in the LA8s sound excellent and they have a lot more 'get up and go' that with the previous LabG amps.

Anyway, if you can afford them, buy LA4s.  If not, Labs will do the trick but you wont be getting the most out of your boxes.

Cheers

They sound very good driven passive without any eq, so don't waste your time inventing some homebrew crossover settings. The 10000Q with a sensible VPL setting would be a good match, eq to taste on your desk...
