Haunted House audio: Gilderfluke SD-10 substitute
« on: October 29, 2011, 05:01:28 AM »

In a haunted house setup, what's a good substitute for the Gilderfluke SD-10?? I want to be able to control local audio sounds (like monster roars when I jump our for a scare) with a foot trigger (or something along those lines).

If you're not averse to a bit of DIY, these :

Are rather good. There are also Chinese knock-offs (Built up) available
on EBAY. As none of the available form factors suited me (ie able to fit in a phone handset) I ended up brewing my own.

I've seen it done with a Sony minidisc player, with a switch wired up to the pause button.  Turn on the auto-pause, cue it up, and the footswitch triggers the pause button.

It's a little bit of a DIY project, but not terribly difficult.

I'm not sure what the market is like for minidisc players now though, but you could maybe do the same thing with a CD player that has an auto-pause feature.  I've seen a few models that do.
