Which Gates ?

(1/3) > >>

John Watson:
My old Beh***ger multi-gate is nearly dead, only one channel works.

Here's my used available options, which would you recommend?

 2- Beh***ger intelligates

 Aphex 105

 Beh***ger XR-4400

They will used as inserts on drums.

Thanks,

Jordan Wolf:
My criteria for gates, in order of priority:

1. Frequency-conscious gating
2. Fastest Attack Time

In your case, since I don't beleive any of your options have a built-in sidechain section for frequency-conscious gating, I'd go for the one with the fastest attack time.

Actually both of the B***ger units have frequency-conscious filters.

Ah, I see.  I stand corrected.  (And, boy, that XR2000's layout sure looks like a DS-201     )

Anyways...from reading the user manuals, I'd go with the XR2000s.  The attack setting on the XR4400 is program-dependent and not user-definable.

I'll always choose the gate that gives me the most control and/or metering, since (to me) gates are the most finicky channel insert, and the more I can set to my liking, the better.
