The show that is still most memorable to me is the one that got me thinking "I want to do that".
Age 12-13, sitting about 5 rows back behind FOH in the Christchurch Town Hall with the family to see Phantom of the Opera.
I remember vaguely, seeing some dude playing about with stuff on a thing that looked like a prop from Star Trek and not thinking much about it. When it came to the song "Music of the Night........" that was the first time I ever remember having the feeling of chills down the spine and the hair on my neck standing up caused by a piece of music. Amazing sound, just amazing.
The verb used on the vocal I have never heard the same again but thats what did it for me. I can only describe it as a shimmering ball of reverb that seemed to be floating above the stage (weird description I know), almost a chorused reverb with a long decay which you could almost point to in the room (strange whats gets us going).
I knew that this guy was making the sound happen and I think I spent the rest of the show watching him as much as the stage. Put my name down as soon as for the next school production to help with sound and here we are now.
And if I had to pick a show that I would have liked to be part of???????
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDkBzkA9L4s&feature=relat ed this would be it I think (not that it is likely to happen
.
cheers.
