Hi Marsellus,

If I remember correctly, the td-1s listed at $4200.

Mine are the install version, with flypoints but no track.
They were demos and I got a good deal on them.

About a year ago I saw some used, with track and they were asking $1600.

The boxes are quite solid, actually built in Candler.

Am pretty sure the drivers are off-the-shelf.
Ivan Beaver would know - he installed a bunch of td-1s.

The boxes are 30 degrees wide x 60 degrees high, that's why I was suggesting three per side.
You could probably do two per side if you had a good front-fill.

I would consider selling mine and going with lighter boxes, but I don't know of anything out there that goes that loud, sounds as good and is affordable.

Alternately, a couple Yorkville U15s per side might work, or TX8s definitely would.

There's a pair of U15s at WWC if you want to hear them.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Yea the tri-amp only aspect of the Flashlights is a bit of a problem but it might workout if the deal is good enough.

Weogo: Finding 6 of a cab that's no longer made is a long shot. And your right we'd need 3 per side to cover. I suspect we'll wind up with some other more ubiquitous cab to make repairs, replacement and research easier. The Yorky's look decent (U15's). The SPL is a little low and they give no specifics as to how they measured it. And it's not a 2 way which I'd hoped to stick with. I'v always liked Yorkville's though.

Here's a few pics of the room. It's intimate and the room sounds pretty good. Even with the crappy rig we have a rep for the best sound in town mostly cause of the engineers that have worked there. The venue is 12+ years old and a favorite in the region.

It can have a nice living room tiny theater kinda feel.

Extra production.

Hi Marsellus,

The U15 has a crossover between the mids/hi and can be bi-amped.
They can go fairly loud, but there are definitely louder boxes out there, like the TX8(also bi-amp).

Another box to throw in the mix is the Community SLS-960, which can be bi-amplified.

SH50s would be nice.
In a few years, with newer models out, there will be more used Danley boxes available.  Right now, most folks that have them want to keep them!

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I second this as well another good sounding decent output box.

I'd love to hear some more testimony regarding the powered offerings from QSC, JBL, and Yorkville. I'm hearing good things about audio quality but also hearing they wouldn't have the head room for a full loud rock mix even in a smallish room with two a side. For this reason I'm expecting we'll go with unpowered stuff. though I may audition some of the powered stuff anyway. And there is the reliability question.

I would be more concerned about their patterns than their top ends. With any of the powered trap offerings from QSC or JBL in addition to the combing, you will also be putting a lot of energy into the walls.

To me, in a room up to about 250, Meyer MSL3's are powered heaven. Obviously that is a significant step up in price from the other powered traps.

Maybe you mean powered MSL-4, the MSL-3 was not powered. With an original list price of around $7500 each they are in another league.

Hi Marsellus,

Ive read this post several times, Im surprised no one has suggested the EV QRx line, specifically the QRx212/75.

Although considered MI grade, it is a nice sounding cabinet, can be bi-amp, and meet your SPL requirements. Youd have to choose a sub of course.

It would work well for both rock, acoustic, and even hiphop/DJ acts.

Two a side would give you 120 degrees coverage, although Ive been doing well with one a side in almost all venues, looking at the photos I think youd need 2 a side.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks, I did mean the MSL4. I shuffled digits in my head, yet again. 40 x 30 coverage, 140 db max spl, they are in another league!
