This Sucks!
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:35:12 AM »

So last year I was rewarded for all my good deeds with the Swine Flu.  I was so happy to get it.  Laid up in bed for three weeks was just great!  Then just as I was getting well, I became sick again with a major repiratory infection that knocked be down for quite a bit longer.  All in all I was sick for the better part of 5 months!

Just forward 12 months from the swine flu episode.  All my friends and my wife were getting the flu this year and I have been fine.  I told then I was not going to get sick this year because I have anti-bodies to every flu/cold/allegen out there after last year!  They still thought I would get sick.

So last tuesday my wife and I are are our favorite burger joint and I had my usual Cheese Burger, well done with no pickels.  About 6 hours later it hit me. and four days later, it is still hitting me!  E. Coli is not something that any of you want, Trust me!

Who did you piss off...?

Another reason to avoid fast food perhaps, but they may be safer statistically than small high end restaurants. I recall some less than sanitary shenanigans in army mess halls while on KP... the cooks were generally what was left over after the incoming aptitude testing filled open slots elsewhere.

PS: Everybody is scratching their head because it appears microbes in the gulf ate all the leaked methane that was supposed to take years to clear. I wonder if the warmer water makes a difference (not that warm at depth), but those microbes are worse than Mikey... they'll eat anything.

Ryan.

That sucks!  I wish you a quicker recovery this time!

Secondary:  I have no idea how this works out in your system, but even in the socialist surroundings I find myself this would cost real money!  I hope you are all set, anyway!

Hope you are feeling better soon!  I know your pain as i had giardia from a faulty filter installation in my friend's backpacking filter that kicked me down for 3 weeks.  Keep hydrated! and eat regularly and healthy even if you don't feel like it

Ever since that oil spill, I can't wait to run into two geologist friends from college.  I want to ask them if the earth has likely gone through traumatic events like that before as natural processes.  After all, the oil is formed by nature a long time ago, and one might think that, with all the other interesting geologic processes that happen on geologic time scales, our oceans may have seen much more oil dumped into them by whatever might allow it to escape from the depths.  Earthquakes?  Who knows!

Of course, I am not saying it is a good idea to dump crap into the ocean.  But I would not be surprised if it has happened before on a huge scale, and without breaking the ocean food chain.

Just a thought!
