It was long overdue.  Bert (Rik Aalbert) Blyleven  becomes the first Dutch-born ballplayer to make it to Cooperstown.  I met him a couple of times after he retired from playing and was surprised to find that (at 6'1") I'm taller than him by a couple of inches.

He had arguably the best curve-ball in the modern era and also one of the best and wickedest senses of humor.  His locker room pranks were legend.  In the sports page of the local rag today he's quoted thusly:

"If I wasn't a broadcaster now I'd be a brain surgeon.  I'd start off with baseball players.  There are a lot I'd like to work on."
