Hi,
I am looking for suggestions on a lighting console for a small black box theatre space. Previous board was a express 24/48 but it was under utilized in the space so was moved to the "Main Auditorium". The space is only used probably 1/2 dozen times a year for performances. The rest of the time it is a "classroom space" and the standard flourescent lights are fine.
I think at the most we will use 24 fixtures at a time max. It must be easy for beginners to learn as this is a High School. Think 2 scene preset. However I would really prefer to be able to record cues so we can be ready to just hit the go button for certain performances. No moving / intelligent fixtures. Budget is 1500$ to spend. Any thoughts?

Smartfade. I am not generally a huge fan but you are pretty much describing exactly what ETC designed this board to be used for. This should definitely fit within your budget and since it is ETC it should be readily available from a local dealer.

I am definitely steering towards that. Was just curious how it functions recording and playing back a cues list. I will do a little more research on that one.

I'm a big fan of the Leprecon consoles for this type of application.  Take a look at the 624 and 1524 - both are within your budget.

Cue list playback is fine but, honestly, programming isn't great. If you are coming from an Express you will find it a bit unintuitive. That said, I believe they have software that helps make it a little easier by connecting the board to a computer via USB. Regardless, it is way easier than the Leprecon boards IMHO.
