Recently my client come to me & ask for 3D sound design   . May I know what is 3D Sound? New term, new design?

Perhaps he means surround sound? Probably should ask the client for clarification as neither of us has heard of 3D sound.

Tell him you could but the audience would need to wear caps with red and green filters covering their ears to get the 3D effect.

Are they asking for 3D sound or like a soundvision design in 3D so they can see what you will be doing?

[The SRS is able to produce 3D sound as in many state-of-art concert halls where the audience is “totally enveloped” in the designed environment. This new technology was available less than 5 years ago & now in popular use for prime concert venues around the world.

You mention a consultant. Is there a specification (bid package) in which equipment is listed ? Or is this a performance spec ? In either case: not enough info has been provided or you have not read it completely.

Basd on this very brief and incomplete description, this could be several "things" including an electroacoustic enhancement system (LARES, Constellation, SIAP, etc) or (as already suggested) a surround system. Or perhaps something else.

Prospective contractors often "win points" by (politely) asking intelligent questions.  You appear to have very good reason to ask questions.

Since they mentioned SRS maybe they're thinking of this, http://www.srslabs.mobi/?  SRS, or Sound Retrieval System, technology has been around since the early 1980's in consumer products such as TVs, mobile devices, computers, car stereos, receivers and so on.   The D&M Pro DN-A7100 receiver has SRS Circle Surround and that might be the only 'pro' product with SRS.

The reference to being used in conert hall venues makes me wonder if they're actually referring to an electronic acoustic enhancement systems such as LARES (http://www.lares-lexicon.com/welcome.html), Constellation (http://www.meyersound.com/products/constellation/), SIAP (http://www.rpginc.com/products/siap/), ACS (http://www.acs-bv.nl/ACS-products.html), AFC (http://www.yamaha-afc.com/) or Carmen ( http://www.cstb.fr/fileadmin/documents/webzines/anglais/PDF/ Plaquette_Carmen_8pages_juin2008_anglais_BD.pdf).  However, many of these systems, or at least versions of them, were available much more five years ago.

 SRS actually they are refer to Sound Reinforcement System.

I ever discussed this with one of the pioneer sound rental company here & they are seem knows this technology. Few of the Hong Kong famous singer’s engineer requested this set up before ; but I don’t think he will teach me how:x

There is no specification (bid package) in which equipment is listed ( because the consultant was fired   ). We only have very general design brief.

Use some Bose loudspeakers and point them at the walls
