looking for Media Server controllable over IP
« on: November 12, 2010, 08:16:17 PM »

looking for a box with hopefully 3+ output zones that can pull audio & video files from a network drive, and that can be controlled via IP commands (TCP or UDP)
video outputs must be composite, with parallel component a plus

the scenario is this:
Customer wants to rip the CDs and DVDs that their client wants to use for tomorrow's event from their desktop computer to a server. Then come event time customer takes an iPad to conference room B and using the iPad is able to scroll through the list of ripped files in a specific folder or playlist and choose which one to play.

It sounds like something that should exist, but I'm drawing a blank.
a single zone solution might be ok if it is inexpensive enough to stack them up, and if they can share from a common database of files.

Any ideas?

Hi

This is what we tend to use for multi-zone - http://www.crestron.com/solutions/adagio_affordable_plug-and -play_systems/

There is a iPad/iPhone app as well as a dedicated control pad. I'm still due for the Crestron training (been in this business for just two weeks so still dunno about configuring the things).

Another piece of equipment that could work is Kalediascape, but it's a server more than a distributed system, but is handy where video is also required.
