AKG CK55 Lav noise
« on: September 21, 2010, 01:02:02 PM »

I just put into service (4) AKG 4500 wireless units with bodypacks and CK 55 lav mics.  I am having a hard time dealing with handling noise on the mic.  No matter where I pin these things, I am picking up a lot of movement noise off of clothes.  I am used to using Shure elements that don't pick up that much movement noise.  Does anyone have experience with these mics, and how have you handled the noise issue?  I am using the windscreens.

I do and have replaced these with either CK-97's or CK-77's depending upon the application. The CK-55 is the entry level mic and while cardiod, is not excatly what you might call best ion class.

Might be a quick and easy solution... just tie a knot in the cable a few inches below the element.  A figure eight not works well because it doesn't create an artificial bend like a simple knot does.

Should help in most cases.
