Allen + Heath GL 2200 problem.
« on: July 31, 2010, 06:56:01 PM »

On two channels I have lost the aux sends output when in pre, switch it to post and it works.  Did a show last night and the guitar player ( acoustic ) said it just stopped coming out of the moniter.  I lost another channel 2 weeks ago when someone with a in ear mix said he lost the kick drum.

Is this the pre post switch going bad?

Any place in the western NY area that works on A+H ?

Notoriously easy to open, and usually easy to fix most of the troubles on this.

Special attention to the seating of the ribbon cables.

And special attention to the seating of the jacks connection to the channel strips. (Channels 1, 17, (and a little on 16 and 32) on the 32-channel model). I used foam blocks to keep the jack connections perpendicular to the channel strip. Weird random issues.

Whether any of that is your problem, don't know. But open it up, and you'll see how easy access is to anything.

Tony,

How does it come apart, do you take all the nobs off, or does the underneath side come apart for access?

The bottom metal plate comes off easily.  You don't need to remove anything off of the face, unless you have to pull channel or input cards. If you remove channels it gets more complicated.

You need the "star" nut tool (bolt driver). I don't remember exactly which sizes, but my T-6 to T-20 set has the right ones. Some of the bolts/screws are machine, the others are self-tapping.

First re-seat all the ribbon cables.  That might fix it.  After that, I would look for any broken solder connections.  Check around the ribbon cables and then on the channels themselves.  After that, it's time to replace the switch.  If that doesn't help, it's something in the channel, such as an op amp that went bad.  Not familiar with the exact circuit on the 2200, but from experience, A&H boards are very easy to get apart and work on.

Thanks for the help everyone, I removed the back and wiggled the ribbon cable on channel 5 and 9.  It didn't work.

Time to call the help line.

Whats a op amp?

If this is bad is this a fix as simple as changing the channel card?

What does a channel card cost?

I have someone with steady hands that could change this quite easilly.

Talked to someone at the A-H tech line.  Told me they never heard of this and take it to a A-H service center.

Just wondering, is the tech line people that actually work and repair the desks, or someone reading off a print sheet like when you call the phone or cable company?  Just seemed like a very fast and genaric answer.

That would be Torx.
