Now that I've looked it up, there are actually several species of vipers that share the name "copperhead"...along with one non-venomous species of rat snake. Rolling Eyes

While we're sharing, here's something I found outside my house:

AFAIK there are only 4 venomous snakes in North America. Rattlers, Corals, Cottonmouths (Moccasins), and Copperheads.

Rattlers give you plenty of warning. Corals are extremely shy and stay hidden. Copperheads try to run away from humans. Cottonmouths are quite aggressive and can be dangerous.

The cottonmouths around here are very aggressive.  Around here everybody just calls them "water-moccasins."  If you go fishing on the river they will literally follow your boat and try to get in it.

EDIT: P.S. You forgot to add the ever feared rattle headed copper moccasin to your list.  haha.

Those other "copperhead's" seems to be prepared for a XXX encounter...

At last they handle it's sexual behave with reponsability, using "condoms". Laughing

You guys don't know how weird it is to be reading such a mild conversation about snakes while sitting in a country where pretty much everything you're likely to run across can kill you. The idea of getting a snake bite and only feeling a "little tingle" makes my head spin!

equally weird from germany, where aside from ticks, the only wildlife one needs to avoid is a boar

We got yer critters right here - just about anything that bites or stings has found it's way into Florida and they won't go away.  I love going to places like London where the meanest thing is a house fly that keeps buzzing around  Laughing

It's interesting to watch the generational differences when a snake is found.  Younger people generally want to look at it and let it be regardless of type of snake.  Older people almost universally will attack and kill a poisonous snake (and a few innocents as well).

To be fair, you have non-poisonous constrictors Down Under, also, like the Olive Python Smile

But I will agree:  When in Oz, assume everything is dangerous!
