e945 vs PR22
« on: April 28, 2010, 11:12:20 PM »

Any experience with these mics? I was set on getting an e945 for my own personal vocal mic (loud heavier rock) and wanted to ask for a comparison to the PR22. I dont have access to either to actually try them out against each other. Also, hows the durability?

Like anything of this nature, it all depends on a mix of personal preference and the source.  Both products are made well and you'll get a myriad responses touting one or the other.

I have toured with both and the 935 and 945 remain my go-to vocal mics.

Past posts have noted that the PR-22 may seem to pick up more stage noise.

I think that it excels at acoustic and low-volume gigs, but have not used mine for anything very loud as of yet.

I say go for the e945 since its supercardioid, which may be of benefit to you.

I have no experience with the PR22, but I own 2 e945. I am very happy with them. I haven't had to do much if any eq to get a great sound out of them. They're now my go-to mic for vocals.

The E945 has been my go-to for quite some time, and I have not heard the Heil.

I don't have the e945 but I do have a PR22.
The problem I have with it is that in addition to picking up stage noise the output seems to fall off quite a bit when a singer isn't right on the sweet spot. It's a very nice flat sounding mic but it doesn't really cut through a loud mix.
I really only use it now for voice only recording.

My PR22 mics have found a nice home in the percussion section: congas, snare, particualrly snare as it grabs the high hat also when posistioned close. No need to fret over handling noise, its in a stand. I like it on git amps too.
