It makes all the difference in the world. What works for slap-bass, does not work for psychobilly slap bass, does not work well for jazz, does not work for bluegrass......
No matter what the claims are.

He's a country player that bought an upright. I don't know what kind or how good it is. He just wants to start playing it live I think. I suggested the David Gage, or the K&K bassmax which seemed well liked over at talkbass. I told him that whatever he picks it works best if he runs it through a dedicated preamp like a Fishman or a Baggs.
I'm done with it. He can make the rest of the journey on his own from here....
