SB1000 talk
« on: March 26, 2010, 01:09:03 PM »

I just did a show where I provided 8 x sb1000's for a corporate gig.  The guy doing FOH commented that we should place the subs on their SIDES, since he felt they created cancellation being stacked single row four high etc.  He commented that because the drivers are loaded inward on an angle, that placing them on their sides that they coupled and was a more "musical" positioning etc...  Rolling Eyes I just wanted to check with all of you, since I've only had these subs a couple months, and only out about 3 times... I would have thought that every photo I've seen so far of them(stacked properly in bricks, 2 high, 3 high) - that , that was the proper way to deploy them. thanks

All Bullshit.

I've heard people say turning them on their sides helps keep some of the LF off the ceiling and spreads it out better on the floor (Electric Factory in Philly), but I've never noticed any difference in performance on their sides vs. normal position.

Ask the guy exactly how a speaker that radiates 360 degrees in both horizontal and vertical be "improved" by placing them on one side or the other.....

FWIW the EAW DCS2 also says 360 degrees but there is a ton more coming out the front of that sub then the back / sides.

ac/dc curent tour used sb1000 straped 4 to a cart on there sides

could  not find any pictures but found this

“There are two lines of 16 EAW SB1000 subs on the floor under the stage, powered by Lab.gruppen fP6400s. It’s not usually a preferred Clair box, but that’s a Pab decision based on his experience of working with Concert Sound.”

Looks like standard SB1000 deployment to me. Wink
