NBA Allstar Game National Anthem
« on: February 15, 2010, 11:19:57 AM »

Ok, who's fucking idea was it to book Gretchen Wilson and some wanker to do the National Anthem at the NBA Allstar game. The Canadian Tenors did a magnificant job with Oh Canada, and then followed by that. WTF was that?????

That was a great game BTW... ignoring some stupid fouls at the end.

I didn't recognize several of the musical performers, but hopefully they were playing to their real audience (not old farts at home like me). They had more than 100k peeps in that one room. That is a Guinness book of records audience...

I agree that it was a little random to have Gretchen Wilson. But you got to remember that there really isn't any top 40 hip hop artists that could sing the National Anthem without Auto Tune set to max. I just know there is going to be a 'T-Pain version' of the Anthem someday.  Very Happy

Didn't catch Wilsons' version of the National Anthem, but I found it on UTube.Don't know what your problem is with her singing it. Sounded good to me.I did hear her in concert about two years ago and was surprised by her vocal range. She sang Heart's " Barricuda" and Led Zepplin's "Black Dog" and sang them very well. Others can judge for themselves:http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-hOZrMV_xE

She sang it well, but I could have done without the guitar.  I like to hear it plain and simple.  I hate it when singers turn the song into a "listen to what I can do" exercise.
