Rack Space Above The Topmpst Amp In Rack?
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:16:30 PM »

Hey all

I know Crown recommends not having any rack space between XLS amps, but I'm wondering if that means it's okay for me to begin stacking other gear directly on top of the topmost amp -- or do I need to leave a space above the topmost amp? I would assume it IS okay for me to mount something directly above the topmost amp, but I just thought I'd confirm.

Thanks

If you've got a rack space available, then by all means fill it with something.

If you put a butter dish in there, you'll have creamy, spreadable butter at the end of your show. Just my 2 cents.....

Melted butter for popcorn if your load is less than 4 ohms/channel.

Read the manual of whatever you want to place there, some things can handle heat and some cannot. So it depends and YMMV.

I do what your asking about but I tend to use a spacer above the last amp that is the ventilated type and then place what ever is is, I try to limit direct contact  of  anything other than another amp.

I'd use an unventilated panel.  A ventilated panel will allow (and perhaps promote) the drawing of warm exhaust air back around to the inlet.
