New LX Console (Medium Scale)
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:44:43 AM »

Hey guys,

Right, I know that this topic has been looked at in the past however I'm looking for opinions on certain products that I've not seen mentioned before.

Picture the scene, you arrive at a small club or festival type music event to run lighting for mid level Folk or Rock bands, basic LX rig (MAC250 Entours, Bunch of LEDs, lots of PARs). You can have either a Zero88 Fat Frog, Avolites Azure Shadow or an Elation Show Designer 3 at FOH. What do you go for and why?

I know that lots of people are likely to say 'Just get a Pearl 2000 and be done with it,' but as a mainly PA company we have no interest in spending 2.5k on a large console that has tons of features we dont need. We dont need to meet many LX riders and if we do, we normally hire in a Pearl 2004 or Hog. The desk will be op'd by our own staff (experienced personnel, learning curve is not an issue) and used for gigs and events.

Opinions?

Cheers
Adam

none of the above

and for the same price as any of them you could get chamsys with a fader wing, a Vista M1 or S1 setup (depends on if you want encoders or not), or a hog PC setup w/ wing. Any of which I'd MUCH rather run into (especially if I've got a preprogrammed show that I'm scaling into this situation)

If I *had* to choose one of those three desks, I'd probably lean towards the Avo as it'll program similar to a pearl and a lot of guys can run it...second choice would be the SD3

FF is a terrible console Smile

The SD3 is very cost-effective and powerful, but you will have a small learning curve when you initially set it up. I've installed 2 of these in clubs recently and the relatively inexperienced house guys picked it up pretty quickly.

Haven't worked with the other ones, so no help there.

If you care at all about rider acceptability I would go with the Avo but I would MUCH prefer a Chamsys setup with a wing and touchscreen for the same price over any of those options.
