One thing I can say is that I've (knock on wood) never had a problem with any of the Elation pieces I've installed.

I cannot say that about the direct from China pieces that clients with huge wish lists and low budgets had installed.

Extra cost is evident when you hold both products in your hand. Typically the more expensive fixture has larger heat sinks, larger/quieter fans, etc which result in longer life products.

After looking at both fixtures (links below) there are only a few similarities.

http://www.elationlighting.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumbe r=1612&MainId=1&Category=LED%20Lighting

http://cgi.ebay.com/HTL-Lighting-DJ-36-3W-LEDs-Par-64-Can-am erican_W0QQitemZ390137029982QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDom ain_0?hash=item5ad5faa55e

1) they both have 36 3w leds
2) they are both manufactured in China

The HTL fixture may well be worth $ 399, but the Elation has a lot more "pro" or commercial features. The Elation has a much more robust housing, power in/out, and you can program in your own scenes for a self-contained exhibit. Also comes with a 20degree lense that can be swapped for other lenses.

The Elation manual gives complete photometric info as well.

If you don't need any thing other than a simple fixture, and you're willing to gamble on a $ 399 fixture, good luck! There's just no need to trash a well-established company with an excellent track record because you don't want to buy their product.

Wowwww...Hey now! I'm not "trashing" anybody here!!! Just stating a FACT...Their prices have gone up considerably in the past few years and don't tell me i'm wrong! I own quite a bit of their products and they are nice pieces,so i'm not displeased with their product at all...Compared to Robe their reasonable, but they are surely stepping up the ladder in price.

Your wrong  Razz  (You told me not to so i just had to)

Elation has always been a great price/performance. Are they the price of a martin fixture? No. But they have good products and have always had great support.

I could always get an answer from the tech guys and always get parts when i needed them. Who do you call at the Ebay place you buy them from for support? That costs money. If thats not something you're willing to pay for then go for it. The support guys have to make a living somehow.

Their opto RGB's were 500ish bucks back in the day when alot of the other entry level ones were 300. We still paid for the build quality and pro-features of them.

I see no difference in this. Pro Product, Pro Pricing. You're welcome to take your ball and go home whenever you want....
