CCD vs Cmos equiped cameras and live events

Can someone point me in a direction for some research, i found an a few websites stating that the rolling shutter on 3/CMOS equiped cameras (HPX-300, etc) could be problematic when recording live events where the automated lighting rapidly changes or strobes. Anyone have first hand experience with this? Thoughts?
