Le Maitre Neutron XS advice sought..
« on: November 20, 2009, 05:24:13 PM »

I'm stuck in the (beautiful) arse-end of nowhere which makes professional servicing a bit of a problem so any help before I contact Le Maitre/blindly attack the device would be welcome:

My Neutron is powering up, self cleaning and the main fan kicks in as normal but then the fan immediately shuts down and the machine re-enters cleaning mode. This cycle repeats ad-infinitum.

No unusual flashing of the LED except the standard 'cleaning mode' flashing it's always done.

Cleaned the pipe, checked the thermocouple, and am tending towards the fluid pump being faulty but before I attack the thing with a blunt screwdriver has anyone seen this behaviour and have some ideas where to start? (I've done my searches and have come up with nowt aside the 'two flash' thermocouple error).

Many thanks,
Dreich

Several things to check:

1)the 2 little wires attached to the tube(either the coil or the straight tube)
2)the plug right above the pump for the sensor wire. Wiggle it around a bit you can even pull it apart and make sure the wires haven't broken inside the plug(seen them get pulled when someone replaced the fluid jug)
3) when you first turn the unit on, turn the haze switch(top one) on and off I believe its like 5 time(rock on and then back off) within a 3 sec of turning the machine on, put your finger on the pump(doing so will prime the pump and you will be able to feel if the pump is trying to pump.

Beyond that I would have to pull one apart to look more at it. Does the tube get hot, if you can get the back of you hand close to the tube you should be able to tell(or where the tube is cut does it glow red)?

Thanks Mark, I'm out on the road just now but will strip the thing down when I get back and check what you suggest.

Cheers,
D

This is an update/fix for those who may face the same problem:

There is a small red silicon tube which goes over the t-piece end of the heating tube. This can come off and block the t-piece preventing fluid and/or air flow. Remove it from the t-piece and reattach to the heating tube. Viola!

Many, many thanks to Steve at the Le Maitre service department. I don't think I've ever had such prompt, knowledgeable or willing advice from any company I've ever had to deal with. Wonderful to see that service still means something to some: because of that Le Maitre is now my only choice for stage fx. Thanks Steve!
