Choir Mics for mobile sound system
« on: May 05, 2005, 07:31:59 AM »

Hi there!

I have purchased a portable sound system for community outreach services. I am now looking to add to this system one or two good-quality, rugged, stand-mounted choir mics. I imagine that the choir could be as large as 20 or 30.
The Shure web-site was quite helpful, suggesting that one should use a cardiod/hypercardiod condenser mic.
It would be nice if the model could be used for other applications eg instruments (particularly acoustic piano), vocals (eg pulpit) and/or background vocals.
I am aware of a number of models which might be OK such as Shure (SM81, SM94), Sennheiser(e914, ME64+K6), AKG (C1000S, C451, 535, C3000), AT (AT853, AT835, 3035), Rode (NT3, NT5), Audix (SCX1-C, VX10).
Does any one have any experience & suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation.

I would go with these mics
shure ksm109 or other ksm if you want to spend the money.
sennheiser k6 w/me64 (my favorite choir mic, very smooth)
AKG c451(also a great piano mic)
hope this helps.

Shure KSM 137 or Earthworks SR-series.

I highly recommend both for choir and they can be used for many things.
