After several solid hours over the course of the weekend, and almost a full pound of screws, I have my DTS10 Kit assembled and kickin!  I haven't run any measurements yet but the sub definitely goes DEEP!  This sub isn't so much about what you can hear but what you can feel.  It definitely rounds out the low end on most music tracks but really comes alive with action movies.  I can't wait to get into a more normal listening environment (but I'm going to have to figure out how to get it out of the basement first)!

A note to anyone else attempting this kit, pay extra attention to the drawings, everything should fit together nicely.  You might also need to bevel some of the edges of the plywood to get the last panel on easier.

A note to Danley, INCLUDE THE HARDWARE WITH THE KIT!!  My local hardware store did not have everything that was needed nor do I have the time to go searching for the appropriate screws (and fix the typo on the size of the cap screws for the drivers). /rant off.  Other than that, great kit and thank you. Smile

Does one have enough output?  What about for us that like a very (un)healthy level of bass?   Very Happy   Is a quad block for a med/large living room nice, or just overkill?

I think one, is going to have plenty of sub-lows for most average sized living rooms.  If you're a true bass nut, build two!  A quad block is probably just crazy unless you're going to use it in a true theater (with hundreds of seats)!

The basement that I have the sub in is roughly 2000+ sq. ft. and it shakes things like crazy upstairs. Smile  I think in a smaller room, it's going to be pretty devastating.

According to info on the 'offical' thread, it's looking like one DST-10 is roughly equivalent to 4 or 6 closed-box 19Ov.2 drivers or 2 closed-box XXX-18.  This would mean that the kit is an excellent bargain as the cost of those drivers alone exceeds the (limited availability) kit price and it achieves this using half the power (or less?).

So if you're familiar with the output levels in a given room using closed-box drivers then this might give you a reference point.  Danley is working on posting CEA-2010 pulse measurements.  Response seems to be solid down to about 12Hz in a room that can support it.

The dts-10 has similar output as a th-50 but with much greater extension.  I don't have a pro application I can use as an example for the dts-10, but the th-50 is used in one of the imax theaters in Chicago.  Only 4 th-50's to run the entire space.

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Busy! I'm one of the guys who got the first prototype kits and posted a lot of the first measurements. Also the Soundstream driver linked above is not the drivers that were compared to the DTS10 by me. They are Resonant Engineering XXX18 D2 drivers. They are 80lbs each and I'm running them in sealed enclosures of 9cu ft off of a QSC PL9.0 on 220v. Needless to say it is not your average double 18" set-up. The DTS10 creams them above 40hz and competes very well down to the end of it's intended response.

Jeff,
Sounds like you are having fun with it. It's a cool kit to build and the output is pretty durn impressive. Especially the 10-30hz area. I think 2 is a good idea mostly because of the ability to smooth out the in room response more than the extra headroom, but that can be fun too.

Did you see the posts at AVS about modifying the "G" brace under driver 2 or using an extra gasket to give more clearance? Also the posts about adding some extra damping in the cab to knock down the out of band reflections in the cab? What amp are you powering it with? I'm running a bridged Crown CE4000.

Hey Josh, sorry for the mix-up.  What is the running price for a pair of RE XXX18 D2?

Here's what I've found:
