Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Busy! I'm one of the guys who got the first prototype kits and posted a lot of the first measurements. Also the Soundstream driver linked above is
not the drivers that were compared to the DTS10 by me. They are Resonant Engineering XXX18 D2 drivers. They are 80lbs each and I'm running them in sealed enclosures of 9cu ft off of a QSC PL9.0 on 220v. Needless to say it is not your average double 18" set-up. The DTS10 creams them above 40hz and competes very well down to the end of it's intended response.
Jeff,
Sounds like you are having fun with it. It's a cool kit to build and the output is pretty durn impressive. Especially the 10-30hz area. I think 2 is a good idea mostly because of the ability to smooth out the in room response more than the extra headroom, but that can be fun too.
Did you see the posts at AVS about modifying the "G" brace under driver 2 or using an extra gasket to give more clearance? Also the posts about adding some extra damping in the cab to knock down the out of band reflections in the cab? What amp are you powering it with? I'm running a bridged Crown CE4000.

My close mic compared to DSL's outdoor measure.
Here is the graph extended to 300hz. Note the deep null after 100hz.
