Hey all,

I need something that could be on par with say a JBL Control 29av or control 30  in an in wall speaker format.  For side mounting into a hollow soffet in a restaurant.

I am looking at the control 300 series but don't know how messy side mounting a back box would be..  bla bla bla.

I want something easy, and relatively high output.

There is a new Control 128 in-wall speaker. Never used it and I wonder how well it performs without an enclosure or back box especially if you compare it with the 29AV. It's pretty much a home in-wall speaker.

Get a rectangular wood-cabinet speaker and build a flange of angle-iron.  Cut, weld, grind and paint to match and screw to the cabinet around the perimeter.  Use Toggler-bolts to mount in the wall, you may have to make a plywood ring to reinforce the drywall of the soffit to studs or structure from the inside.

I do know parts express has a blank-baffle inwall cabinet if you want to customize something yourself.  Unfortunately it doesn't have a back-box and the cabinet-less design of most inwalls is their biggest downfall.

I just remembered that EV has an EVID inwall 6.2 now too

Did you look at the Control 128W in-wall speaker?  And although they may not have the same low frequency performance unless you also employ in-wall subs, I've had good luck with the Tannoy in-wall speakers.
