Many of the subjects don't interest me.  They lack depth to keep me engaged and it takes a bit of my time and effort and when the environment gets noisy, I don't find it worth my time.

I won't even try to pretend that I would have belonged in the old Lab, but I certainly have had tremendous benefit from the "new" lab, even though I agree that many of the subjects lack depth.

Having said that, I would encourage users to make use of the "Rate Topic" option at the bottom of every thread page.  If more threads that sucked were rated as 1 star out of 5 it makes it really easy to skip past it.  The same applies for a good thread, by all means give it 5 out of 5 to draw attention to something that is deserving.

This feature is far under-utilized and could really help to filter out what is good and what is not, saving us all time.

[

p.s. what is 2600K dialup?  I remember 56K Smile  I reckon you Bay Area Internet Fashionistas had it better that us hard-scrabble Missouri types.... Smile

It was probably actually 28k, which had doubled by the time you started to log on in Missouri.

The extra "00" can be viewed a the "Moon Eyes" decal I used to put on all of my model car kits in my youth, whether or not those cars actually HAD 1/25 size replicas of Moon wheel covers.

I still jump in and participate when a topic interests me professionally or recreationally but I do find myself skipping over many threads without reading them at all.

It's still a great visit but there's more repetition and filler here than in the early days.

I'd expect that a lot of the repetition has to do with the fact that many of the topics have been beaten to death repeatedly. A question about cardioid sub arrays these days doesn't turn into an interesting thread, only a comment that the OP should do a search for the topic in question. It's only when new subjects and ideas are brought forward that the boards get some excitement and the heavy hitters weigh in with useful information.

This specific topic comes up every year or so, and I'm personally finding it a bit more valid than I did a couple years ago; with the absence of many of the manufacturers reps, designers, and big guns who usually post on this forum particularly noted as of late. Maybe when something interesting to discuss pops up, then we'll see a resurgence of information and discussion, but until then why bother? Who wants to huddle around the dwindling campfire and discuss the same old thing over and over?

Ah yes, the old CIS forum!  Those were the days!  I finally gave up my CIS membership when AOL took over CIS.
