Time for a Midwest LAB get-together and shootout
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:21:40 PM »

Hey all,

My friend and fellow LABster Marc Hayes of Top Notch Productions and I have recently been talking about how we can join forces on some things and this led to thoughts about long term rig plans.  A nice mid-sized racks and stacks set up that can be split up or used all as one is definitely in order but the question then becomes which racks and stacks.   (Marc actually does have a really nice rig that could be expanded as one of our options that I’m sure he’ll chime in about later in this thread – the concern with it would be riders).

Now sure I could search and post threads (and of course I do!) but it did occur to me that we’ve never had a “Midwest” LAB get together/demofest/shootout the likes of which our contemporaries on the east coast have had and that this would be a perfect time to change that.  It would be a great chance to meet with other LABsters, show off your rigs, and play with toys.  It would be great to get even those without mid-sized racks and stacks to demo to come out just to meet and greet and to maybe get some ideas for their own future plans.

Obviously there is still a lot to be worked out, so here’s what we would need and have still yet to figure out:

-People to come out to this event.
-LABsters with mid-sized racks and stacks.  (Think KF650 market.)
-A location (somewhere in the general Chicago area probably)
-A day on which to do it (we’re coming up on the slow time of year so hopefully more people will have some free time)
-Possibly someone good with Smaart who has a measurement rig if we want to get really scientific.
    -Other thoughts?

I know this is all still a little vague but with input from all of you I’m positive that it will shape up into a great event.
Why let the Maryland group get to have the fun all the time Twisted Evil

I don't think Chicago's gun laws will allow us to hold a shootout.

Seriously though I'd be in for any of the Chicago/Milwaukee/MSP areas so long as the date didn't interfere with Iowa football (I've missed family members wedding because they interfered with home games).

I guess Bennett's not going...

I might go though, I've missed most of the east coast LAB get-togethers.

I was working on this a couple years ago when I had a club.
But then the fit hit the shan.

I'm up for it.

Well if we had it in a far out suburb like where I live we could strap guns to the backs of our trailers and no one would bat an eye because that's about par for the course out here Laughing

I'm game. I don't have any gear to bring but it would be cool to meet up with some LABsters

I'd like to add to Pete's list.

I'd like to see something outside which would define when since we have Winter and construction.

Want to explore dual PA configs.

We can go shootin', there's many a fine range just 40 miles outside of Chicago, indoor and out.

I say we BBQ that way Bennet has to show up.

btw, Pete great to meet you.  How's that amp working out?
Did I leave it on the bi-amp preset?

If I don't have shows, you can't me in, along with any of my inventory.  I'd also volunteer as the Smaart certified guru guy man dude.

If we're talking about doing this indoors, then there's a couple venues in the area that I could pull favors on and probably get us a nice room.  Or, if we're thinking outdoors, I could offer my yard..

It's about 150' by 100' - Enough to measure anything without reflections.  I'm zoned C3 commercial so we can make as much noise as we want.  I also have a new big ass stainless BBQ, 6' bonfire ring, and my girl is an amazing cook.

How do you keep that rig from flipping over in the wind? It looks cool, but I'd be afraid of it outdoors by itself.Do you use the drill to crank it up and down, looks like no room for a handle.

I'm in.  No 650 sized rig, but SPL TrikTraps, JTR Growlers, Servodrive Contrabass(for some ultra lows), and the rest of the gear needed for a nice small live system.
Might be able to pull a rabbit out of my hat too.
I make some damn fine BBQ as well.

Best regards,

John
