yorkville tx9 vs. eaw sb850 vs. building myself
« on: September 10, 2009, 06:13:00 pm »

Hey guys i have a question that i hope you guys can answer.
I am trying to buy 4 subs for outdoor events. The only problem is that i am a little confused on what would be a good sub in terms of sound quality and loudness. I am stuck between some subs:

EAW SB850z:

EAW SB1000z:

EAW SB1002:

EV Phoenix PX2181:

Can you guys let me know of your thoughts and experience with these subs and what would you suggest as a good buy. Thanks for the help i appreciate it

We've got a pile of the TX9's and have had never had issues with not enough low freq output for the shows we do.  Properly powered and processed, I like them better than SB850's (heard them side by side).  Haven't heard them next to the SB1000's or the EV's, but I think  you'd be please with any of these subs.

What size events are you using them for?  What kind of music?

The TX9's are B&C loaded...so quality drivers there.  Not sure what current EAW subs are loaded with?  I'm sure also quality drivers from B&C, 18Sound, et al.  FWIW, Yorkville really seems to know their stuff when it comes to subs.

I have used the 850's, not my favorite sub either. I really dig the Sb1000z's. loud and they hit pretty low.

That being said, I bought the Phoenix subs and like them a lot.  My ONLY complaint is that they don't dig super deep. -3 at 45hz.  They are very musical though, very even throughout their playable range. Efficient to, they don't take a ton of power to light them up. We do mostly rock, modern country, pop, the louder stuff and they are great for that kick drum whoomp.

Never used the TX9's.

If you need maximum thump from just 4 subs, go with sb1000's. You can stack them in a block of four in front of most stages and they hit a lot harder than the 850's. I haven't used phoenix subs so I can't compare them....
