Help w/ Jazz trio lighting LED or PAR 38
« on: April 17, 2009, 12:00:29 pm »

I need some advice for lighting my Jazz trio. There's just so much information on this forum. I think I would like to have 2 poles,  with 4 small lamps per side run by a foot controller. My question for the forum is: should I go with Par 38's and a 75 watt bulb or should I be looking at some kind of LED unit? Thanks for any help!

How much power will you have available?

Do you want to be able to change the mood during the Sets?

Do you have the Budget for LED's?

You would need only 1-2 fixtures per side with LED's, and the available colors would be very wide. Very easy set-up, no heat, etc...

The traditional Par's would be cheaper, but will not travel as well, will not look as good, and will draw more current, although using 75w lamps makes this a non-issue.

Depends upon your budget; less than $200, traditional cans. More than $500, LED's.

Thanks for your input. Most of the gigs I do are the typical casual reception type of event. So power wise there's almost always a couple of 20 amp circuits, one for the PA/ back line and one for lights. It sounds like the LED's are the way to go. Light weight, no heat. I would like a foot controller (fade in/out, highlight soloist etc). So, now I need a recommendation on a good high quality LED par.  I rarely buy gear but in this case I'm not very concerned about price because I want the right item the first time. So what should I get?

Caution - I have not used these yet - but am intrigued.

Great for all those casuals where I do not need to bring a trailer. Packs flat - so it probably won't get dented as much as PAR can shaped lights.

I've been trying to find a real review, to no avail. They just appear to be coming off back order on the reputable sites.

New in the US, but I understand they were available in Europe prior.
