When would you use input eq's and compression as compared to output eq's and compression?

Just not sure why it is offered twice in the DSP or when would be an appropriate time for it.

Ive got it set up using eq on outputs and compression on outputs, right now everything is zeroed but thats where I plan to go for adjustments, is this wrong?
I also see there is Delays on Inputs and outputs, I could see Delay on inputs to fix alignment for the incoming sources I assume.

Input compression would compress the whole mix, output compressors you would more likely set as limiters for individual pass bands.

Same goes for delay.  Input delay would be for aligning to backline, etc., where output delay would be used to align subs to tops, etc.
