cabinet for radian 2218 ?
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:21:16 PM »

i ended up with a couple radian 2218s and want to build a pair of single 18" subs out of them. this will be the first time ive built any speakers. the woodworking isnt an issue nor is access to baltic birch. I like the SUB 18 cabinet B&C has plans for http://www.bcspeakers.com/SGG/PDF/207.pdf . Would that box work for the radian 2218? Looking at the spec it seems to have a slightly lower xmax than the drivers recommended by B&C for the box.

OK, Radian's site seems to be down but if the TS parameters here and here are correct, it's not a very good sub driver.
The high Qes means it wants a huge box to get low without a major hump in the response, but at the same time that means it will have very poor control over excursion, which is already quite low as you noted.
Attached is what WinISD makes of it, the left half is SPL at 600W ignoring power compression etc and the right half is excursion at that power. Red is 180l net tuned to 37Hz, white is 150l net tuned to 37Hz.
Cheers,
David.
