Transfer function
« on: March 02, 2011, 04:42:59 PM »

I'm working on spectra foo and for some reason i cannot get the transfer function to respond...
I have two inputs coming in (mic and line from console) and it appears to respond, but then when I pull things out on the graph nothing happens.  I can pull frequencies all the way out and nothing happens... any ideas?
is there a spectra foo forum i could check? i searched but i couldn't find anything

What a dual channel FFT analyzer is showing you is the DIFFERENCE between the 2 signals.  If your reference signal comes *after* the EQ output you will see no change.

You say the reference signal comes from the console output.  Either you have something hooked up wrong or signals aren't routed correctly in your computer.  There are several possibilities, but I'm not a Apple guy, nor am I a Foo Specialist.

Go to Rational Acoustics web site and read the tutorials on Smaart.  Perform the loop-back test with SF and see if you get the correct response.  FFT analyzers are work (internally) the same, and you should see the same results as with Smaart... and check out the Foo support that Ray links to.

Is your EQ inserted on the bus you are sending the stimulus signal through?  This would cause what you are describing.

I only made that mistake a half dozen times, once upon a time... .. ;-)

a patch mistake seems probable

follow these tutorials/tech notes : http://mhsecure.com/technotes/index.php#foo

and download the 'Foo manual : http://www.mhlabs.com/metric_halo/download/index.shtml#downloads

Oh yea I've never done that before. Just like I've never tweaked a mix on a house graph all night not realizing it was still bypassed and was sure I was getting some where. And I've certainly never taken a SMAART reading with the EQ still in and with the curve from the night before. I've obviously never done any of those things cause I'm a professional.  ;)
