Breakout room recordings / iKey
« on: January 16, 2009, 01:19:33 PM »

Has anyone had any experience using the iKey for basic audio records. I saw a few old posts giving mixed reviews in the LAB forums but was looking for some more recent info.

Basically, I'm looking for something simple and of course cheap to record breakout sessions to mp3. I would love to have Marantz CDR 310s but I don't really have the budget at the moment to cover 8-12 rooms with those. The iKey and an 8gb USB key seems like a good solution for under $175, provided it works worth a damn.

For a little more money you can get a Zoom H2, which works great.

I've been looking at that Mac,

How do you typically utilize this? Distance from speaker/audience, any pitfalls to be aware of, etc.

Thanks,

I give it a feed off the console. The mics are fine for voice recording, but are still limited to the response you will get with distance recording. The USB transfer mode is slow, you will want a card reader for the computer that assembles and prints the files.

Nice. Those look much better than the iKeys, plus I get Samson dealer rates.

Thanks for the info!
