You have ALL given me a plethora of information that I will re-read, use, study, research, and use to help make my decision on how to better mic the piano.  As someone said, just about anything is better than the ol' sm58 I've got there now.  But hey, you use what you gotta use.

I will agree with Tom, even though it seems he was reiterating what I was saying to you
I was only stating that I felt the pickup was a better way to go.  IN THIS SITUATION.

I think its safe to say that the ideas and opinions on piano micing are about as varied as choices of microphones. The upright piano presents a challenge above and beyond your typical grand piano, Ive used pickups as well with mixed results but I will agree with Tom that its the only anti feedback option. The use of 2 mics is another option that presented you can vary the brand and type mic by opinion and taste. Ive read many articles about Piano micing in many magazines by many Pro's and Mic Manufacturer's. The one truth being they agree to disagree, applying specs and acoustic patterns to the application only makes everyone more confused. Look at the microphones frequency response, look at the Pianos age and quality. Placing Neumann's inside a 350.00 piano is a travesty unto itself. This is where the Internet gives you an edge and the ability to study and look at many different mic makers product. Look before you jump, Get a demo of several brands before buying and LISTEN...Your ears will cut through the hype. Good Luck

sorry, I forgot to remember that you had also stated these same points earlier.
Also,
pickups can feedback, specifically from lower frequencies.
Just to set the record straight.
They are just LESS likely to with a well tuned system.

I have never seen a BB even come close to feedback, whereas I have often seen C-ducers feed back and they pick up ambient noise in a microphonic manner.  This could be due to the wear & tear that can occur with a C-ducer tape.  The BB is far more robust.

I'm not saying it cannot happen. But I do say that "for all intents and purposes" the BB does not represent any threat of feedback.
