I once did a brand new installation and the painter came along and did that same thing. He couldn't understand why I wanted to kill him.

One of my pet peeves is people who have to have their wallplates match the wall so the paint or cover them with wallcovering.

this reminds me of a customer I had once..
we replaced a homebuilt wooden rack with a nice metal wall rack and it left some dirt marks around where the old rack was.
I mentioned that they might want to get something to clean the wall with.
to which he replied "bob doesn't clean.. he paints.."

What makes it worse is either when the painter paints over all of your wires in the 16x16 J-boxes (including all wire labels) or when the painter paints over all of the custom-engraved panels with a heavy textured spray-on latex.

Actually had an installation where the owner decided to paint everything on the dance floor white for a special event; included in the latex coating were the subs, which were front-loaded horns. Nothing like a thick coating of white latex on a 15" woofer...

Kind of like when the head of the costume department spray paints a dozen brand new MKE2 lavs (including the capsules) and wonders why you explode Mad Mad Mad

Dear Mr. Painter,
it has come to our attention your creative artwork and our sensitive and needed audio equipment have unfortunately crossed paths. Although we appreciate your skill with a brush, we find your latest venture to be unacceptable and have therefore decided to return our installation to it's original condition. Please feel free to review our math calculations as follows:

three gang high quality xlr input plate, brushed stainless steel   $32.17

labor to remove, reterminate and install new assembly  $53 per location

oh, by the way, there were 500 locations..

please forward your check for $42,585 dollars to....

oh, and Happy Holidays to you and yours!

And they wonder why it doesn't work.

Obviously because the plate is mounted with five round head screws and one flat head screw.  Yep, that's what's going on the punch list.  The rest I figure you'll fix since the Contractor is responsible for providing a "complete and operating system".  Cool

Good luck even getting that plate off and not taking some of the wall with it.
