midbass for B&C sub215
« on: April 29, 2009, 06:01:14 PM »

Hi I am building the b&c sub215 subs which have a really high bass output of 135 long term. Now I need something that will fill the void from 100hz to 800 hz ..... any suggestions. Something I can build myself.

Shivraj,

Matching the dispersion of your mid and HF at the crossover point is important to making a good sounding system.

What are you using above 800 HZ, and what is the dispersion pattern?

I want to crossover at 125hz, I think that extra 25 to 50 hz will make a big difference; using 4 12inch or 15inch per side for midbass. How many would I need since these cabs only do 125db/m.
I want to run 2 B&C sub215 (1 per side on crest ca18).

Over 800hz I am using Radian 850PB-8 with BMS 2236 horn.

Thanks very much for your input and thoughts.

the dispersion pattern for the horn is 60x40.

I will use rectangular boxes stacked like this, what do you think the dispersion pattern will be?

 [] ---- horn
[  ]
[  ]
[  ]
[  ] - mids
[    ] - sub

thanks again

Shivraj,

Dispersion varies with frequency, a 15” speaker is about -6 dB at 60 degree at about 1.8K, a 12” at 2.2K, a 10” at 2.8K.

A 15” has a 180 degree -6 dB beam width at around 600 HZ, a 12” at about 800, and a 10” at about 1200 HZ.

Vertically stacking cones will narrow the vertical dispersion but not affect the horizontal dispersion.

With only a single HF and 2) 15” for subs, 2) 12” in simple sealed boxes should keep up.

But going with 4 x 10” per side would allow a higher crossover point, which would clean up the sound of the HF driver, and give you some vertical height.
