Hey Guys,

Long story short, we blew our subs. I'm looking for recommendations on replacement raw speakers like Eminence, Selenium, RCF, or what not if you guys here could be of some help. I recently replaced a floor monitor speaker because of your guys' help here at prosoundweb, so thanks in advanced. Here's some background info:

Yamaha SW118IV speakers
500 watts program/ 1000 watts max
There is a port at the bottom of the speaker

(This is the series V, we have series IV. There isn't much different except the inputs)

We have two of these single subs running in bridged mono. So they are 8 Ohms, but run under 4 Ohms.

The new amp we have is an Crown XS900, so I believe we overpowered them. I believe we need drivers that can handle this type of power. It's 2500 watts at 4 Ohms bridged mono.

You could get your loudspeakers reconed.  That would be your cheapest option.

Otherwise you need to have a budget in mind.  You can get more powerful loudspeakers, but they may not be right for your cabinet design and may cost more than you are willing to spend.

What is your budget?

Sorry. About $300-$400. The venues we're equipping are not high volume. Anywhere from 100-400 people at max.

Let's say $400.  So that is $200 each for a 18" driver. The only choices at that level are going to be fairly equal to what you have now-or less.

Your best bet is to have your current ones reconed and keep the level down, or you will be doing it again.

Clarification $300-$400 each. What I meant about high volume was high volume attendance as compared to bigger rock events. We play in closed rooms most of time. 12's on top with 18 subs. We play at high volume SPL.

Well that opens up a different market.

However be warned that your cabinets are more than likely not up the build quality as what would be expected if you use a $300-400 woofer.

You might be better of having your drivers reconed and then adding that money to what you plan on spending and get some better quality cabinets.

You can only "polish a turd" so much.

The B&C 18tbx100 fits the budget and is a nice driver.

I'll consider the recone. I wouldn't mind upgrading the woofer though. I was considering something from Eminence since I hear Yamaha gets their speakers from them:

Peavey Low Rider

It would probably be better to go with speakers that can handle the power. Do you guys have any recommendations besides these?

Before you start buying speakers, you should download WinISD Pro scale the box (ports as well) and see which driver will work best in those Yamaha cabinets.

You cannot put any driver in those cabinets and expect stellar results.
