The 845 is just the super-cardioid version of the 835.

The 845 has a frequency response very, very similar to the 935 and 945. The 9 series are twice as expensive as the 8 series. I don't mind paying more for a clearly better mic of course Smile

I'm leaning towards the 845, 935 or 945 at the moment. 835 is out of the equation at least.

How does super-cardioid affect normal live singing at a venue?

if you have proper mic technique, it really shouldn't affect normal singing in a live venue--as others have mentioned, it should help you achieve higher gain levels before feedback from the monitors (if you're using wedges)

the cardioid/ super-cardioid refers to the pickup patterns of the microphones, and the super-cardioid mics have a "narrower" sound pickup pattern to better reject on-stage noise from the side [whether the noise comes from other instruments/vocals, or monitors]

Evan, did you try the e945 also?

I'm trying to decide between the e935 and the e945.

The latter has better feedback rejection.

Lee, the band that Evan is mentioning is primarily on IEMs.

I'm using: EV QRx212 over JBL SRX718s(2) with Crown IT's and MRX512m & MRX525 on monitors with XTi's; all controlled by Yamaha LS9-32.  I have a bunch of other stuff too.

A mic's pattern as well as it's off-axis frequency response can have a lot to do with how they sound on IEMs.

I have seen cases where the mic that made the talent most comfortable was not the FOH guy's first choice.

I think the "change your singing style" thing may have something to do with having to be more "on mic" when you use a hypercardioid mic like the 845 or 945. It's not the singing style that may need to change as much as the mic technique.

Print off this add and take it to any Guitar Center and they will sell you the E835's for that price, since they do price matching now. I will be visiting my GC today. And I did the research, and these are new mics never opened. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002H0RFY

Thanks, but I'm not looking for prices. Just information on the mics.

The e855 was great sounding mic, but they took a back seat to the e865 and e845 in sales. Sadly, it was discontinued. I have only heard it once in a live situation when I was behind the board, but I recall liking it very much, esp for that singers voice.
