And I thought my gigs were loud... 139dB!
« on: August 03, 2008, 12:42:50 PM »

I just found this today:
"The World’s Loudest Band, Manowar Kicks It Up a Notch with Meyer Sound and Westfalen Sound

Epic heavy metal band Manowar secured a place in the Guinness World Records during the 1990s as the loudest band in the world, and sheer volume has remained an integral part of the Manowar concert experience. The band’s technical rider specifies a minimum unweighted SPL of 126dB at FOH position, a feat few sound systems can handle and still maintain the sound quality.

So when, during the sound check at the second annual Magic Circle Festival in Bad Arolsen, Germany, Manowar achieved levels in excess of 139dB through Westfalen Sound GmbH’s powerful Meyer Sound MILO

Maybe everyone in the audience wore earplugs and shooting muffs, and simply wanted the physical pounding?   Rolling Eyes

Congrats, stupid loud has been achieved.  Next on the agenda, lip reading classes  Very Happy

Jeff Hair is their FOH guy, kudos for him keeping it out of the red! I understand he used a Midas 3000, fresh out of the crate for this show, didn't want any dirty pots or faders to get into the mix!
I understand the dirt at the front of the subs was rippled. Wish I had a picture of that.

Whats the point? Jeez, SPL is like vodka. Awesome until you have too much then you just want to throw up.

I think that definitley is a case where the PA has crossed the line from "tool" to "weapon".
