Is there anything cheaper?
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:33:16 AM »

I'm looking for a USB or Ethernet to DMX interface that will be compatible with a variety of 'on pc' versions of consoles that's less expensive than say a MA NSP or Hog Widget

I saw the MA 2Port node @ around $1000 , but am wondering if there's anything cheaper that will do the same thing (and work with MA offline preferably)

the sub $500 range would be perfect

I believe Martin Lightjockey is around $600, but that's not compatible with anything else as far as I know. You might want to stick with something specifically designed for the software of choice. Using an off brand can sometimes have strange results.

Most of the USB DMX devices out seem to be proprietary to their own software.  Example, only the Wholehog DMX Widgets work with Wholehog PC, etc.

You need to pick the Software and USB Device combination accordingly as to what you want to spend and do.

You've already heard it - but the "good" ones are proprietary.

I use the Enntec "pro" on Light Factory.

I love LF - but it is not a free lunch.

The Enntec USB/DMX box also works with (free!) Freestyler; a really neat effort at open source..

Any attempts to get that DMX device to work with any (I tried them all) other commercial software have not been successful.
