We're looking into options, Mac. As I say, I was unaware of this until I read Clayton's comments on May 28 (it's been ages since I was on the forum past 1 am). For one, I've requested that Rackspace reschedule the backup time to 3 am (still cocktail time somewhere, but better than midnight or 1 am). Beyond that, we're looking into the possibility of adding a mirrored database server, so that they can back up the mirror and not affect the primary. It takes about 1.25 hours on average to run the backup (over 7 GB of data in the forums, plus 456 tables and over 70 million records!).

Bear with us, now that we're aware of the situation. We'll come up with a solution (like: watch TV instead!! lol!!).

That's still only midnite for those of us on the west coast. If you moved it a couple more hours, I still don't think it's likely those on the east coast would be affected, (unless they're pulling all-nighters!)  Rolling Eyes

Also, some types of backup software have "open-file" options, where you can check-mark if you want it to backup open files. Could that be an option?

I was watching TV.   Laughing   And chatting, on the theater sound list, and playing solitaire. If we can't complain, what have we got?

But then there's the rest of the planet to consider. Argh, I hate time zones! I'll see what can be done.

Hey Mac, what's on the tube tonight?

New scheduled database backup time is 3 am. That's CST, btw, not EST, so it's 1 am west coast, which is better than midnight.

Thanks for working on this, 3am CDT is much better than midnight CDT. Another hour or two might be a tad better but not much.

That mirror DB server would be a big help. (It also extra redundancy).

Thanks again.

Philip
