chauvet color palette?
« on: April 29, 2008, 04:30:25 AM »

We want to add a wash to our dance floor. I was thinking about putting up a couple LED pars when a DJ I work with recommended the Chauvet Color Palette. Anyone have any experience with this?

It looks pretty cool, and seems to cover a pretty large area. Here's a youtube link with an informative demo.

I'm just wondering, for you lighting guys, how would you hang this over a dance floor without the brightness of the fixture itself being overly noticeable? Its this fairly large rectangle of a fixture, I just want the wash.

I'm thinking directly over the center of the dance floor pointing straight down would be the least noticeable. But that probably wouldn't be best for coverage. Any ideas? I like the effects it has over a regular LED par but I'm still considering just using two LED pars for basic color scrolling. Thanks

Edit: One more question. I couldn't find info online, especially because the highend website is down right now. But can anyone tell me if the Lightwave Research Universal controller, (usually used for trackspots) will work with other brands and LED pars? I remember reading somewhere that its specific for only high end fixtures. Thanks.

Here's your user manual for the Universal Controller.

My band just experimented with a color palette this weekend. I placed it directly over the drummer. It looked awesome as a top wash. I'm not sure how it would work as an overall wash, but against some background like drums or a curtain it would probably do some pretty cool stuff.

I had a set of four and recently sold them.

They were great for front wash but I liked the output and narrow beam from my LED Pars better.

One thing I would like to point out is that they are super thin - you can put 4 in a case that one LED par would normally fit.
