Most BASS for my Buck- Less than $600- Please help
« on: April 14, 2008, 05:12:55 PM »

Hey everyone

Just want to say thanks for any and all help/recommendations before hand. Im a young college dj lookin for any help I can get.

Ok, so what I am looking for is the LOUDEST DEEPEST subwoofer. I want people to be able to feel the beat. I mostly play rap/hip hop at all the parties I do... and I just need a lot of bass.

I am trying to spend around 600 (or less of course) and I already have a samson sx1800.

Here are my options-

(1) ElectroVoice Eliminator i Sub E- $400
(1) jbl- jrx118s-  $409
(1) pevey- sp118-  $469
(2) Peavey PV118- $500

Again, I am looking for the setup that can give me the best and most powerful bass... to make some stuff rattle!

Thanks a lot

I don't want to poop on your parade but
unless your trying to put some beats down
in your bed room you need to hit the X10
button. A small but real Hip Hop sub system
will cost quite a bit more. Try $5000-7000
for subs and amps. The SRX 718 would be your best
start if you are looking for a small sub but
it won't rattle the walls by it's little self.

Hey!

I agree that the above that if you want a truly nice sub you will have to spend more.  A sub to look a would be the Yorkville USC1 or the Yorkville LS808.  Of course they will both be a lot more towards the sound you want once you pair them up.

Take Care!

Not to rain on your parade either, but that amp on sub duty might not last very long. (You can't even bridge it in 4Ohms, not a good sign for amps destined to be pounded all night on sub duty.)

Going for cheap stuff will cost you more in the long run.

You'll probably get some better responses on this forum: http://www.djforums.com/

Thanks for all the input guys.

And I would rather you "rain on my parade" then let me waste money!
This isn't for a club or anything, just portable Dj equipment, usually played at small college/frat houses.

Ill check out those other forums though. Thanks for the help everyone!

Loudest deepest sub? I'm thinking four LAB subs and an I-Tech 8000. After labor and costs, you're looking at around $6000.

I do not think this is what you're looking for, and I don't think what you have will cut it. You will definitely need a good amount of (read: couple thousand) watts from a quality amplifier, and a quality sub. Even an RMX2450 would suffice for a budget rig, bridged into a pair of SRX718's or an SRX728. Even that's gonna run you about $1500 total.

Bottom line: there is no cheap way to get loud deep bass.

Check out the Growler; it seems to be very good for the $$$.

A pair of Yorkville LS1208's and a QSC PL340 bridged into it would give you plenty of low end. It'll run around $3000 for everything though...

Any of the subs you listed will be destroyed after a few gigs.

On a budget note, I would suggest a Yorkville LS808 and a QSC RMX2450.

One lab fired into a solid corner, about 24" from the wall, will give PLENTY of bass for a house party.  Get an amp with DSP and you can reap the full benefits of the sub.  I have used a single labhorn off a bridged Crown XTi 2000 and by the time the -20db lights come on the structure usually cannot take much more... but it is there if you need/want it.  Those two can be had for under $1500.  Just make sure you have a corner to put it in, as the sub is not nearly as happy by itself away from boundaries.  However, I haven't had a problem with the one lab against a wall.  I just engaged the limiter a little earlier and set the crossover to 35 hz to make sure I don't tear anything up inside the sub.
