SRX 718's - with Casters?
Nathan White:
How many of you with JBL SRX 718 subs have installed casters on them? We have 4 718's, some shows we use 2 and other we use all 4. Do you install casters on all of yours and roll each in separately? We were wondering if we can mount casters on 2 of them and stack the other 2 on top of them, but this would put them face to face when rolling. We do have the JBL covers for all of them. Any problems with this or would you not recommend this? Also do I have to buy the FBL caster kits? They sell for $80.00, seems like I should be able to find something much cheaper that works the same. Any recommendations for what will match up to the mounting screws that are already on these subs?

Build caster boards. Make it big enough to put 2 boxes face to face. If you want to stack 2 more on top, that's up to you. Use a ratchet strap to hold the whole thing together.
This way you don't have to listen casters vibrate.

The vibrating casters can be silenced with shock cord, but you can't eliminate the extra depth the casters add if they are permanently attached.
Casterboards are the way to go for long pushes, though for only two or four small subs like SRX 718 I'd still be inclined to go with a good two wheeler, an inflatable 7" tire goes over bumps a lot easier than 3.5"-4" wheels.

If you look at the back you'll note that the caster attach points are already there, and with screws in the to boot. You can use these mount points and they will fit standard casters.
Using these attach points for the casters stands the sub on end making the truck pack a little easier. However, because the speakers and grills are now facing up you won't be able to pack anything on top of the speaker unless it's light and you use a packing blanket.
In my world I have dollies for our 718s and I have the casters attached. I use the dollies for moving them four (4) at a time, or if it's a smaller job, just roll them in on the casters. I use good casters and have not had a problem with vibrations.
