Other companies (my main reference is EV) require the load be borne either from the bottom or distributed over the entire cabinet via specially designed fly brackets.

The EV SX-300 flies with eyebolts screwed into the top, just like the Mackie.  

Even more interesting is the wood-boxed SX-250 which flies with a fitting that replaces the bar in the top-mounted carry handle -this is the actual factory kit!

For single cabinets, yes.  for multiples, no.  I have always flown them in arrays, so that has been my frame of reference.  I admit I err on the side of over-engineering when flying weight overhead.  One accident could put me out of business.

What does one Chinese factory have to do with another? Surly if you can paint all Chinese sources with the same brush I can do the same with a "Kenney's"

Your all paranoid about china. Not everything they make is crap. Sure mackie isn't the greatest speaker but they wouldn't sell you something thats going to kill someone when you hang it.

.. and more than likely someone is going to survive a 40lb hit on the head. That really wasn't the point of my post. The fact that one has to go to a third party to pullback this speaker is a little silly. Especially when the company that makes the part is notorious for being out of stock for months at a time on products. Its a design flaw. you can defend it all you like - but I call it like it is.. Design flaw.

I don't think anyone here would disagree with you that it isn't the best design. The issue we all have is with your assertions that even though Mackie certifies it and even though ATM will put their name on it, it is still crap. That is what our issue is as that position is just a little crazy.

You are right though, it is a bad design.
