connecting wireless iem transmitter to wireless mic receiver
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:53:22 AM »

Hi,

Would like to ask if it's possible to connect (wirelessly) a IEM transmitter to a wireless mic receiver, assuming the frequencies are the same.

Like, eg. I have a Sennheiser EM300 G3 wireless mic receiver at 800MHZ ,  can I connect it to a SR 300 IEM G3 wireless IEM transmitter at 800MHZ?

If it is possible, what is the maximum distance (without walls or anything) it is able to transmit signals?

Thank you in advance! (:

Regarding distance, I have used IEM transmitters to IEM receivers, with helical antennae driving delay systems, for around 600 feet with no problems.

I have to send signal from my FOH to my line array across a water feature of which there is no way to go around, only either put my signal line underwater or use my Sennheiser XLR transmitter. I can still stick to my old method of using my sennheiser XLR transmitter but I want to find a method to do it wirelessly with my available equipment without the hassle of changing batteries.

It will work just fine with the Sennheiser gear you mentioned as long as you set the transmitter to Mono and deactivate the pilot tone on the receiver.

Depends on transmitter power output, antenna types deployed, coax losses, distance of propagation (and possibly Fresnel zone clearance) and receiver sensitivity.

OK , when are you doing this? I'd be very interested in knowing how it ends up for you.

thanks

It works. Works well with a booster in fact, bringing it down to the venue tomorrow. If anybody's interested I can upload pictures.

I have set up exactly such a system at a sports ground using exactly the same Sennheiser gear you are proposing. It has a single transmitter and multiple receivers around the ground. If you have clear line of sight you can probably get a satisfactory result using the standard antennae as I have done  up to 150 metres distance. With active aroels at both ends you will get  greater distances if necessary.

What "active aroel" (sic) are you using on the transmit side?

Sorry for the typo, at least you didn't think I was using aureoles...... Both ends referred to the receivers at both ends of the football ground. Hope that clears it up for you.
