So basically Im just a regular guy who bought these bad ass speakers at a yard sale. I thought hu? it has a weird plug in the back im sure I can just order the cords online for like $10. But now its looking like they might need some kind of concert level power controller.

can I some how get these puppys to work without having to buy a $1500 power controller thing?

thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to the forums!

Upon review of the Manual(s) [I suggest you read them]
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/823028/Meyer-Sound-Up-4xp.html
http://www.manualsdir.com/manuals/124716/meyer-sound-mm-10.html?page=11
(screw Meyer's effing stupid log-in system  >:(  >:(  >:( )

They both use 48V DC @ 3A Max as their power source.

Quote
The MM-10XP is powered by an external 48 V DC power
supply, eliminating the need for wiring conduits while still
preserving the advantages of self-powered loudspeaker
systems. The unit's onboard amplifier and signal-processing
circuits were designed to store DC power and tolerate volt-
age drops, thereby accommodating light-gauge cables and
lengthy cable runs. The MM-10XP is available with either a
Phoenix™ 5-pin male or sealed SwitchCraft connector for
receiving balanced audio and DC power. The
EN3 connector is ideal for outdoor, all-weather use.

One of these will be the ticket. You'll be a tiny bit underpowered with 2-mains + 1-sub, but that depends on what you plan on doing with them.

Hi How do you set up Meyer up-4xp and mm 10 xp?
« Reply #4 on: March 29, 2017, 03:52:03 PM »

I purchased these two speakers at a garage sale and now I can't figure out how to use them because they dont have any cables. I thought I could just buy the cables online but now it seems like I may have to have a $1300 controller for stage performances?? isent there just some way I can spend like $20 and get these speakers to work?

I signed up on this form just to figure this out so I really appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Did you also get the MPS-488 power supply, or do you just have the speakers? And you have one UP4XP and 1 MM10XP?

AFAIK they require a 48V power supply, that is what is in the controller. If you have the right connectors, and a robust enough power supply, you should be able to run them.

Mac, you might want to merge the other thread from the proAV forum that I and Dick responded in into this thread.

The Meyer Sound MPS-488HP is the power supply you need.  You could try to DIY one, but the chance of actually making the speakers turn on (and run, continuously) is rather low.

The "weird plug in the back" is either a 5-pin Phoenix block (green, rectangular), or a Switchcraft EN-3 (black, circular), depending on how they were ordered.

And what yard sale are you going to that you found some of these speakers?  I want to go to that yard sale...

I just installed some of these in a convention centre in Toronto.
There is a power supply MPS488HP  that can handle 8 and takes audio in as well.
For single use there is the MPS481 that looks to be 48 volts DC at about 2 amps. (find something at a surplus store)
The connector is either a Phoenix (flat with screws) or a Switchcraft EN3-5 (round 5 pin) (as shown in above images)
Audio is 2 wire balanced with shield.
If it's the EN3-5, I would suggest you buy the 6' wire set from Meyer as these little guys are a PITA to solder!
Phoenix?...easy.
