LEDs on main output do not work EMX512sc mixer
« on: December 30, 2015, 05:47:26 PM »

Hello. I have a Yamaha EMC512 powered mixer and the main outputs LEDs do not light up.
The monitor out LEDs barely move when driven 100%. Any idea what might be going on?
Thanks!

If the monitor out LEDs barely move, how do you know it's driven 100%?

Are you able to get an adequate amount of sound from your speakers/system?

One thing you could try is without the sound system.  Mixer only, send a test signal from say a Behringer CT-100 into a Chanel and see what the output measures.  Using a VOM you should be able to measure pin 2 and pin3 at 5 to 7 volts AC.

The output meter LEDs start at -10 db so I would imagine you would have plenty of volume even just getting the -10 light to activate!
IMHO...nothing wrong here.

I sometimes use a very similar Yamaha powered lunchbox. I'd never really given it any thought before reading this, but I don't think I've ever seen much action on those lights - even when there's a decent volume going. I guess I just use my ears, plus it helps that usually I'm not pushing the kind of ear-piercing levels those powered mixers can be subjected to, when used in practice rooms and at small gigs.

On kit like that, those meters to me are like the 7 band GEQ that all similar products seem to have - I know it's there, but I never have much use for it.

Hello, and thank you for all the replies. Let me add some more info. When the mixer is in L&R mains mode there are no LEDs lighting. I have two 8 ohm cabinets with 15" and horn. I am playing SRV cranked to a painful level and there is not a single mains LED lighting up. If I send the channel monitor signal to the monitor out, it will light up the monitor LEDs. If I crank the monitor master, the level will show pretty well. If I switch to Master/Monitor mode. The monitor LEDs do not come on at a high volume. I would think at least the bottom LED should light. So, some of you think the amp is just "cruising?" I'm afraid to turn it up any more because the speakers might not take it. Maybe I should try dummy loads on the outputs.

Sorry, I didn't state that properly. Please see my follow-up post above.
